Get your search on
July 1st, 2006I am a researcher. Not by trade, but by hobby. I LOVE to learn about all kinds of things and, as a result, Google is my best online friend. It’s my homepage for easy access to the search bar and using the personalization, I can find all kinds of new fun things to look up.
The Firing Range endeavor has increased my searching tenfold, since I like to provide links to the movies, television shows, actors, whatever that I’m discussing. I find that I often get lost in my search results with a simple search turning into several more searches both related and unrelated. I probably waste at least an hour a day searching whatever piqued my interest that day.
But I’ll admit, I’m a Google snob. It’s the primary search engine that I use, almost to the point of exclusivity. Every now and again I’ll Ask Jeeves, but outside of that I go to individual sites like IMDB or HowStuffWorks. Frankly, I’ve found most of the other search engines to be mostly useless, or at least not as effective as Google. I even sometimes find that the best answers for the question I’m asking occurs in the featured links…. I at least don’t rule them out like I do on the rare occasion when I use other engines. I also use tabbed browsing so that I don’t have to interrupt anything else I’m doing and so I can open several links at once to go back to later.
What about you? What search engine do you use and how often? How do you getyoursearchon?
