People watching

January 26th, 2006

I adore people watching. No matter where I go, it’s something that keeps me occupied. Going downtown is one of the best places to do it because so many people are going about their business - all sorts of business, people from all different walks of life.

I wanted to get a picture of the woman in the gold boots. It’s too bad the lighting wasn’t good enough to get the photo. Those boots were seriously gold, too, they looked like she stole C3PO’s feet and shins. What made it even more frightening were the black jeans with TWO jeweled/beaded starburst patterns - one on each leg. One was at least 8-10 inches in diameter, the other was 3 or 4. But it was the camel toe that really made the outfit. I didn’t laugh at her, though. I just smiled and tried to get a picture ;)

The other interesting point of watching was the Parking Enforcement Officer. Where I was standing was a four-lane road with a large, lane-sized island section in the center. People often park in the center when there’s no metered parking available, but this is not actually legal. I watched the PEO wait around to see if the three cars in the middle of the street were just stopped briefly, watched him ticket them, walk away, come back and wait some more (and write another ticket for the new car that showed up in the meantime.

I must admit, part of me really wanted to see the results of the PEO seeing the offenders who had been parked there for a *LONG* time. (I mean, I was standing there for a good 20 minutes, and they never actually came out, they must have been parked there for over a half-hour.)  I was disappointed when the bus finally came because I didn’t get to watch the reactions of the people who were ticketed by the PEO who was waiting them out.  *sigh*  There wasn’t much good to watch today.

But, once I feel better and it’s a little warmer, I think I’m going to start spending lunches down there.  I miss working in that area anyway because of the hustle and bustle and all the state workers.  I used to have a lot of memorable experiences that never got written down.  Now that I’m writing, I feel like maybe I should seek them out…

  1. catch 22, availability of memories and time to record them. seem to be inversely proportional sometimes.
